Taurus Holds the Broken Road

The Stoneway broke while three thousand refugees were still crossing it.

Taurus planted both hands beneath the mountain bridge and held its weight on his shoulders. Behind him, families fled from the tides gathering over Cancer's realm. Ahead, the road cracked toward a violet abyss that whispered every promise Taurus had ever refused to break.

The Gate told him that strength meant never letting go. Stone climbed his arms and locked his feet to the earth. The longer he held the bridge, the less human he became—and the faster the mountain collapsed around him.

Cancer arrived with a river wrapped around her like armor. She asked Taurus to trust the refugees to one another and release the road for a single breath. He heard weakness in her plan until a child placed a small hand against his stone wrist.

Taurus let go. Cancer's river carried the final travelers across as the bridge fell, and Taurus broke free before the stone could claim his heart. Together they saw the crown flash far below, carried by a current moving against the sea.

They followed it toward the Drowned Archive, unaware that the false Leo was already waiting beneath the water with an army that did not need to breathe.
